From a small fabricator to a national integrated steel manufacturing company
RPG commenced operations approximately 60 years ago as a small engineering, fabrication and metal forming operation, GM Gurr.
In the mid 1990's GM Gurr acquired a competitor, Rollpress and in 1997 moved to the current Wacol manufacturing site, trading as Rollpress Gurr.
From 1997 to 2002, Rollpress Gurr's operations focused on providing heavy steel processing services and were a major steel fabricator to Australian industries.
Proplate Pty Ltd commenced operations in 1998 and was established due to an identified need in the market for a specialist steel profiling business providing professional and high quality services – something missing from traditional steel merchants.
RPG was formed from the merger of Proplate Pty Ltd and GM Gurr Ltd trading as Rollpress Proplate Group in October 2002.
In November 2006, Rollpress Proplate Group went on to acquire Air Ride Wind (now RPG's Adelaide manufacturing site), that specialised in the fabrication of wind towers for the renewable energy sector.
In June 2007, Rollpress Proplate Group was acquired by the private equity group, Next Capital (as majority shareholder). It then commenced trading as RPG Australia.
Later in 2007, RPG then went on to acquire Major Metals, thereby establishing a presence in Dalby, Queensland.
In 2009, RPG acquired AquaCon, a former division of Australian Water Systems.
